An investment firm have laid out their development plans for 75-81 George Street.

The site is currently a House of Fraser, but London based firm, Candian and Arcadia, hope to deliver a multi-million pound investment in the property at the corner of George Street and King Street.

The initial proposals for the site focus on refurbishing and modernising the existing building to provide modern retail space, alongside high-quality office space.

These plans would secure the long-term future of the building, would support an increased number of employment opportunities and help to increase footfall in the Town Centre, according to the investment firm.

The plans are still in the early stages and a public consultation is expected to be held in the coming weeks to understand the views of the community.

This will take place ahead of the submission of a planning application to Richmond Council.

A spokesperson for Canadian and Arcadia commented: “Having owned the property for nearly two decades, we would like to reassure residents and the local business community that we fully understand the key anchor role it plays in Richmond Town Centre.

"We are committed to making a significant, long-term investment in the property and our main aim is to help support the vitality of the town.”

“We are also highly aware of the level of interest in House of Fraser over the last year, both locally in Richmond and nationally.

"We have built-up a good working relationship with them over the last 16 years and this dialogue remains open going forward.”
