A Richmond barber, who twice had his life saved by his parents, is giving back to the renal wards that helped him.
George Angeli, 38, was diagnosed with a rare nephrotic syndrome at the age of two. This causes the kidneys to leak protein.
When he was 13, he was put on dialysis after having both kidneys removed. This was when his dad stepped forward to spare him by offering his kidney, saving his life.
His dad, Evangelos, 63, was a match and his kidney allowed George to live a normal life until last year when it started to fail.
This time his mum, Georgina Georgiou saved his life by donating her kidney. He is now back running Richmond Barbers thanks to his mum and dad.
This month George has launched a range of male grooming products - 50byRB - to help fundraise for Peters Ward at Hammersmith Hospital, which treats kidney patients.
50 per cent of profits are donated to the ward, by buying products they need, while the rest is reinvested back into 50byRB. George hopes that this fundraising scheme can continue raising funds and awareness for a cause close to his heart.
He said: "I am really thankful for my parents. They saved my life twice, once in '94 and again last year. I was knocking on death's door but they saved me.
"Its hard to put into words what it means to me. When I was younger it really interrupted my teens and all I could think is 'why me?'
"I just wanted to give something back as my way of saying thanks."
George has had unique male grooming products and caps made to raise money and he will also be embarking on a charity walk later this year.
