The borough is set to become a hub for cyclists with confirmation a new cycle super hub is to be installed over part of the car park at Richmond Station.

It is expected the hub will be ready for use by Spring 2020 and will provide space for over 700 bicycles, as well as improved facilities and security.

The Council and South Western Railway are working in partnership on the project and have secured £2.7 million in Department for Transport funding with the Council contributing £300,000 to support it.

Cllr Alexander Ehmann, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Transport, Streetscene and Air Quality said: “Richmond is the busiest station in the borough with thousands of commuters a day using South Western Rail, District Line and London Overground services in and out of the borough.

“We know many of our residents are commuting to and from Richmond Station on a daily basis and providing more space for them to store their bikes is an important part of our programme to make cycling a more accessible and desirable mode of transport around the borough.

“That’s why I’m delighted we have been able to work with South Western Railway to push this project forward and am very much looking forward to getting this hub up and running next year.”
