A Wimbledon wonderkid has once again showed why he is one to watch in the swimming world.

Staged at the venue of the 2012 Olympics at the London Aquatics Centre, Max Higgins was crowned the 50m freestyle king during Surrey County Championships in the 10/11 year old category.

After qualifying for two finals but coming out with only a silver in the butterfly to show for it, the 11-year-old was determined to dominate the freestyle.

He swam a new personal best in the heat from the outside lane to qualify as the favourite for the final.

So later that night, after adding three more silvers and a bronze o his trophy cabinet, it was time to go for his 62nd and most important career gold.

He got off to a good start and sprinted away from the field after 15m to win by a "comfortable" 0.67s, in what was another personal best of 30.78 seconds, ranking him as No.6 in the UK.

With those results, Max has already earned himself a berth in five events in the next rung up the swimming ladder, the London Regionals in May in the dual 11/12 age group, again at the same venue.
