A Barnes school is supporting the makeover of Suffolk Road Recreation Ground by donating £2,000.

An enclosed accessible playground, made from natural materials is being constructed and is due to open soon.

The Friends of Suffolk Road Recreation Ground have been instrumental in helping the makeover happen.

With the help of the Barnes Community Association, they successfully applied for a grant from Richmond Council.

They are now fundraising to cover the remaining costs.

Harrodian School, which is just around the corner, presented a £2,000 donation to the Friends of Suffolk Road and Steve Mindel, chairman of the Barnes community Association.

The school is keen to support the development, which will hopefully encourage more children to be active.

Zac Goldsmith MP, accepted the cheque on behalf of the borough, he said: "This is a magnificent new facility, and it will enhance the community and become a much-loved place for children of all ages.

"It would not have been possible without the support of generous individuals, businesses, schools and I am so grateful to Harrodian for their contribution."
