A teenager from Twickenham was 'chuffed' with her progress at this year's Youth Winter Olympics in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Olivia Weedon, 16, competed in the short track speed skating for Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Sarajevo.

She was also the flagbearer in the opening ceremony, alongside her uncle Jon Eley, who was flag bearer at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Olivia race in the 500m, 1000m, 1500m and mixed team relay, achieving two personal bests.

She said: “At the beginning of the week I was pretty chuffed with myself as I’ve managed to actually start progressing in my races and compete with the top girls.

"I got to the B final of the 1500m, coming second which I am extremely proud of as I got a massive 4 second off personal best.

“The 500m didn’t go as planned, but I’m still improving and progressing, so there’s positive signs.

“Being the flagbearer was incredible – walking out with the whole team behind me was great, especially hearing the whole stadium cheering.

"I can’t even describe what I was feeling inside – it was such a wow moment and one I’ll never forget.

“I’ve enjoyed EYOF a lot, especially spending time with the rest of the team and getting to know all the other sports.

"Everyone’s got really close and got to know each other. I’ve also enjoyed the racing, it’s been such a different experience by learning to cope with a multi-sport environment and staying focused and prepared.”
