Trains between Sutton and Epsom were disrupted Friday afternoon after a tree fell across a section of the tracks.

National Rail announced the disruption of services via Twitter today.

National Rail said: "A tree has fallen on the railway between Leatherhead and Ashtead, blocking the line towards London. Services between these stations may be cancelled, delayed or diverted via an alternative route until approximately 16:30."

Southern Rail confirmed the tree was removed from the line at around 4.15pm and services were expected to return to normal soon.

Strong winds attributed to Storm Erik battered various parts of the UK on Friday, with forecasters expecting gusts of up to 70mph in some places.
