Surrey Police are appealing for information following the theft of a safe containing valuable jewellery in Esher.

In a statement published to their website yesterday (February 7), Surrey Police said that the theft occurred early on Tuesday morning (February 5) and that the contents of the safe had high monetary value.

"We're appealing for information after a safe containing thousands of pounds worth of jewellery was stolen from a house in Esher on Tuesday (5 February). The theft happened sometime between 6am and 7pm at a property on Grove Way."

The statement revealed that the victims of the theft returned home to a scene of devastation after the thieves broke their way into the property and violently removed the safe and its contents.

It added that, so large was the safe in question, it was likely more than one person was involved in the burglery in order to remove the safe from the property.

Surrey Police said: "Residents returned home in the evening to find the rear glass patio door smashed and the safe missing from the master bedroom. It's thought the suspects gained access to the house via the field behind the property.

"The safe has been described as being too large for one person to move on their own."

Surrey Police called on anyone with information about the theft to contact them on 101 (999 in an emergency) or http://surrey.police.uk/TellUsMore , quoting reference PR45190013050.
