The leader of Merton's branch of the Conservative party has stepped down from her role.
Councillor Oonagh Moulton announced at a council meeting last night (February 6) that she was relinquishing her role.
She said it felt like the right time to make the decision.
βIt has been an honour and a privilege to serve as leader of the opposition for nearly six years," she said.
"In my time as leader I have seen our group go from strength to strength, and I feel it is now right to step down and let a new leader take the Conservatives forward to victory in 2022.
"Merton has so much potential, but our borough has been constantly let down by nine years of Labour failing to improve life for local residents.
"I will remain actively engaged in Wimbledon Park Ward and the wider Merton community, and I look forward to working with the new leader to bring about the change Merton needs.β
A new leader of the Tories will be chosen on Monday (February 11).
