A 19-year-old man suffered a serious head injury after being involved in a road traffic collision in Twickenham yesterday.

Police were called by London Ambulance Service at 1:31pm on January 23 to reports of a collision involving a silver VW and a pedestrian in St Margaret's Road.

Detectives are now appealing for the driver involved to come forward, who did not stop at the scene and was last seen heading towards A316.

The pedestrian was taken to a west London hospital and remains in critical condition.

Detective Sergeant Wendy Parker of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Merton said: “I believe the car that failed to stop was a silver, 5-door VW, probably a Golf or a Polo. Urgent enquiries are ongoing to trace this vehicle.

“The driver of this car should be in no doubt as to the seriousness of the incident, and must surely realise that the only sensible option is to come forward now and speak with police.

“I also want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who has information about the silver VW involved.

“I am making progress in identifying relevant CCTV, but I am asking for help from drivers with dashcams who were travelling along St Margaret’s Road, Twickenham around the time of the collision. The silver VW was driven from Richmond Bridge towards the A316, and any footage showing such a vehicle could be crucial to the investigation.

“Local businesses on St Margaret’s Road may also have useful CCTV. If you have not yet been contacted by police, please do check footage and call me with any relevant information.”
