A person has been struck by a train and died at Berrylands Station this morning, the British Transport Police has confirmed.

Officers were called to the railway station at 8.47am this morning (December 17) to reports a person was hit by a train.

Paramedics attended but the person has been pronounced dead, and officers are working to identify the person and inform their family.

The British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Reports of the incident at Berrylands Station first emerged on social media at around 8.50am today, following disruption to South Western Railway services.

One social media user tweeted at 8:55am: “We're being held at Woking, guard's just come on the tannoy to say emergency services are dealing with an incident at Berrylands.

“All trains on this route being held.”

South Western Railway said train services running to and from Surbiton and Clapham Junction may be delayed or revised due to the incident, with disruption expected until noon.
