Music fans can expect a festive feast of great acts at the Bull’s Head in Barnes this weekend.

On Saturday (December 15) Andy Roberts’ Blues & Soul Patrol take to the stage.

This exciting contemporary Soul & Blues outfit is led by the outstanding vocalist, Andy Roberts, (ex-Atlantic Soul Machine & Storm Warming) with guitarist Tony Pow, (Stray, Harry Cane & The Moneymakers, JP and The Wiseguys), keyboard and Hammond wizard Richard Simmons, bassist Tex Comer, (Frankie Miller, Los Pacaminos) and drummer Ed Spevock, (Babe Ruth, Chicken Shack).

Playing a mixture of original material together with their own superb interpretation of tunes by the likes of Curtis Mayfield, Joe Louis Walker and Gamble & Huff, the band’s dynamic stage presence and funky fusion of Blues & Soul makes them one of the most sought-after acts on the circuit. 8.30pm Tickets £11 in advance & £13 on the door.

On Sunday (December 16) it’s the turn of Helen Theophanous’ Swinging Latin Christmas Fiesta with a very special guest, the comedian and guitarist, Boss Nova aficionado, Earl Okin on the Lunchtime Session (2.30pm): Helen and her top band warm up the festive season with exciting Latin grooves and songs of warmer days plus some seasonal favourites.

Together with John Crawford on piano, Paul Martin on bass, Steve Taylor on drums and Tim Whitehead on sax, adding to the excitement the band is joined by special guest, Earl Okin, the noted comedian and guitarist who is one of the UK’s finest jazz and Bossa Nova exponents who will be bringing his own unique sounds of Brazil to the party.

Over the years Earl has worked alongside everyone from Stephane Grappelly to Barney Kessell; from Cleo Lane to Adeleide Hall, gracing the stage of just about every major venue in London as well as performing Bossa Nova in Brazil and jazz worldwide. He is simply quite unique.

Helen Theophanous, aka JazzHelen, has performed in many leading London jazz venues in recent years having studied music at Goldsmiths and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and with award-winning Warner Brothers jazz recording artist Lea DeLaria. Half Irish and half Greek, Helen’s warm, passionate vocals can swing one minute and captivate with a gentle ballad the next.

Her voice has been described by Claire Martin OBE as “Classy...stunning...with drama and presence….” “Deliciously warm vocals and terrific scatting” Cabaret Scenes. Tickets 14 in advance & £16 on the door.

Also on Sunday is the Bill Posters Band with their Yuletide Extravaganza on the evening session.

When Three Bonzo’s & A Piano and Bill Posters Will Be Band deciding to call it a day at the end of 2014, several former members of both outfits decided to draw breath again to launch Bill Posters Band on the unsuspecting public.

Thus two of the illustrious Bonzo’s, Roger Ruskin-Spear, reeds & vocals, and the late great Sam Spoons, joined together with infamous ex-Bill Posters members, Mike (Megs) Etherington, cornet, vocals & assorted teapots, Chris Lowe, trombone, ukulele, percussion & vocals and Biff Harrison, banjo, accordion, saw & stravoli, whilst bringing in an exciting new talent to the line-up in the form of Jim Heath, for many years a stalwart with Harry Strutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra on banjo & guitar.

Another ‘new boy’, keyboard ace David Glasson, the pianist in 3 Bonzo’s & A Piano and a former member of Bob Kerr’s Whoopee Band has also joined the new line-up.

The band will be playing some of the Bonzo’s repertoire that we all love and some favourites that Bill Posters have become famous for, as well as new material to create an unusual musical slant on the wild and zany show that made both bands so popular over the years. 7.30pm Tickets £13 in advance and £15 on the door.
