Smoke at Clapham South Station has forced firefighters to evacuate the underground station.
Firefighters were training today (December 12) near Clapham common. At the end of the training, they were alerted to reports of smoke coming from the tube station. Crews went to investigate but found the cause of smoke to be overheated breaks.
Station Manager Charlie Hanks who was running the training exercise said: “I can understand why people would be alarmed to see so many fire engines but it was a complete coincidence that we happened to be training close by. We went to investigate and concluded that overheated brakes must have caused the smoke.”
Crews will also be training in the area on Friday.
