Work to use a redundant Council owned site in Hampton Wick to provide a state of the art, residential care home and affordable housing development has reached a major milestone with the buildings now ready for final fit out.

The site will be the new location of Silver Birches, a residential care home with 10 people with learning disabilities which is relocating from Marchmont Road. The remainder of the site will also provide 19 low cost rented homes that includes a five-bedroom shared house for supported living.

Richmond Council has again worked successfully with Richmond Housing Partnership (RHP) to deliver another high quality affordable housing development.

Cllr Liz Jaeger, Cabinet Member for Housing said: “One hundred per cent of the residential properties developed on this site are affordable and will be let to those living in the Borough who most need low cost rent housing.

“We are determined to identify more opportunities for affordable housing development, working, as we have here, with our partner housing associations to provide housing schemes for our local residents built to a standard which we and our communities can be proud of.”

Tim Willcocks, Executive Director of Development at RHP said: “We’re delighted to be bringing these much-needed affordable homes to the Hampton Wick area. Due to the rich mixture of tenures within the development we’re excited to see the vibrant community that thrives there. We know that loneliness for the older generation is a key issue so to have a care home within this mix of people living on this site will be a proactive way to combat this.

“Through effective partnership working with the Council, Bugler and Fitzroy it’s allowed us to make good time on this build of high quality homes.”

Anna Galliford, Chief Executive of national charity FitzRoy said “It’s great to see this wonderful new building in the final stages of development. We know that all of the people we support with learning disabilities cannot wait to move into their new home next year.”

Cllr Piers Allen, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services and Health said:

“It’s fantastic that we have been able to use this development opportunity to work with FitRoy on providing a much improved, fully accessible care home to allow more people to live full lives in our community.”
