A young boy, who's step father committed suicide after suffering from depression, organised a football match in Kew to raise awareness for mental health and suicide.

Santiago Linero, 42, committed suicide after a long battle with depression. He left behind two children and two step children. Alfie Price, 15, organised a charity match on Saturday, September 22 in memory of Mr Linero. He was a restaurant manager at Cafe Rouge in Woking and lived in Thames Ditton.

Alfie described Santi as a "kind hearted, loving man who was loved by many". In the early hours of Saturday (September 8) he was found having committed suicide. Alfie said: "The joy and happiness he gave everyone just didn't sit within himself and this is an all to common occurrence.

"He was tragically neglected by our pressured healthcare system and it is time to realise that a tablet a day simply doesn't tackle depression.

"He was one of the pleasant people you would have come across. He is originally from Colombia but has lived in the UK for most of his adult life. He had suffered from depression for most of his life but his condition deterred in the last weeks.

"We choose Ham Playing Fields because he took me to the ground every weekend to play in the home games for Kew AFC, so I thought it would be fitting to hold it there. John Kane at Kew AFC was a massive help in organising the match. The club also donated £100 for the cause which was so nice of them. It was great to see such support for my step-dad and an important cause."

"The match was great - we had about 70 people come from around the area and they helped raise £690 as well as raising awareness for suicide and mental health. We have raised a great amount of awareness and money for SANE. We will also be starting a Santiago Linero Foundation, in memory of my step-dad. This will mean we will be activly raising awareness for an important issue."
