A Richmond sports centre will be given a new lease of life after receiving support through the council’s community fund.
Grey Court Community Sports Centre has been awarded £56,666 to help with improvements to the facilities, which are 40 years old.
As part of the works, the changing rooms will be made full accessible to enable everyone in the community to use them.
Cllr Michael Wilson, Cabinet Member for Equality, Communities and the Voluntary Sector said: “I’m glad that the Council, through the Community Fund, has been to support Grey Court School’s project to bring its sporting facilities into the twenty-first century.
“The improvements will help make the facilities more accessible for the whole community to enjoy.”
Maggie Bailey, Head teacher, said: “This award will not only benefit current and future Grey Court students. It will also benefit the thousands of young people who attend at least a dozen different community sports clubs based here at evenings and weekends.
“This award enables us to bring our facilities up to scratch for everyone and we’re incredibly grateful to all those who voted for Grey Court Community Sport.”
Grey Court School is one of eight organisations to be awarded funding in the latest round of the Community Fund.
