Twickenham treasure Turner’s House has been visited by Sir Vince Cable after its stunning £2.4 million renovation.
Chair of Turner’s Trust, Catherine Parry-Wingfield, showed Sir Vince and his wife Lady Rachel Cable around Sandycombe Lodge - designed by landscape painter William Turner - on Friday, April 6.
They tried out new features which help explain the blue plaque house, such as a telescope which recreates the view Turner saw from his bedroom window.
Lady Cable said: "It was very dilapidated when I first saw it, when Professor Livermore was still alive and looking for a long term solution that would be true to the spirit of Turner, who gave his work to the nation, and yet be an asset to the local community.
“I think Catherine Parry-Wingfield and her team have done a phenomenal job of restoring it with integrity and good taste".
The Cables drank coffee with some of the trustees of the house and a shadow of Old William smoking his pipe in the kitchen.
Sir Vince said he was an admirer of Turner’s work, particularly his vivid sunsets and painting of The Fighting Temeraire.
