Bexleyheath's Central Library has reopened after four weeks of work which included preparation for installing the borough's first Changing Places toilet.

The new loo gives people with learning disabilities, as well as physical disabilities, somewhere safe with extra equipment and space to use the toilet comfortably.

The new Changing Places room will have an external access from Royal Oak Road and will be open later this year.

Other improvements in the refurb include bigger meeting rooms and a refreshed look and feel.

The library, in Townley Road, reopened on February 1 ahead of its first ever book festival, BookBuzz.

Bexley Council's cabinet member for community safety, environment and leisure, Councillor Peter Craske said: “It’s good to have Central back open for business as usual. The refurbishments will make a great difference to library users and have all been finished in time for our first ever book festival – BookBuzz - that takes place across the borough from February 10 to 24.”

BookBuzz will launch with at Central Library on February 10 from 10am that will feature visits from favourite book characters, face painting, circus skills and much more. Pickup a festival brochure and take a look at our special BookBuzz video.
