The council is renewing an offer to Richmond residents for free rock salt this January to help prevent injuries from slipping on ice.

The initiative, launched this winter, means up to 50kg of rock salt per person is up for grabs to make driveways and footpaths around homes safer to use.

Councillor Peter Buckwell, cabinet member for highways and street scene said: “I am very pleased to see that this new initiative has been such a success, and has helped our residents in dealing with ice on their pathways thereby avoiding nasty accidents that come from slipping on ice.

“Anyone wanting to take advantage of the extended scheme can come to the council’s depot in Langhorn Drive, Twickenham and pick up a bag.

“Unfortunately, we are unable to make deliveries, so if residents have neighbours who unable to collect for themselves, this is an opportunity to help each other.”

The rock salt will be available for collection over two consecutive Saturdays in January between 9am and 2pm on January 13 and on January 20.

Residents will need to sign in at the gate reception so must have photo ID and proof of address on arrival.
