Paul Holdsworth may have benefited from his enforced lay-off caused by injury early this season, as he came within a few seconds of winning two time trials last weekend.

On Saturday, he was runner-up in the West London Cycling Association 30k in a time of one hour five minutes 48 seconds, 43 seconds behind the winner.

The following morning in the Team Axiom 25, he again took silver, clocking 53.46 to finish just eight 8 seconds adrift of the winner, Charles Zanettacci (Leisure Lakes RT).

But there was a victory for the club in this event, with Jo Wells taking the women's section in 1:02.23 from Kingfisher duo Karen Axelsdottir and Sandra Blenkinson.

The event was held on the A3 road near Liss. There were 78 starters in the solo category.

Another worthy performance was Jeff Marshall's ride in the Sotonia Middle Markers 10, where he achieved third place overall in an excellent time of 22.22, at an average speed of 26.826mph.

Not especially fast by today's standards? Maybe not, but Marshall, a star rider in the 60s and 70s, turns 66 later this month.
