Staines & Laleham CC found another hero on Saturday in Welshman Adrian Davies, who foiled the visiting Old Hamptonians attack to earn his side a losing draw.
The previous week Staines had started their league campaign by beating the newly amalgamated Oxted and Limpsfield after shooting them out for 71, with Steve Weller taking 4-45 and Tim Bloomfield 4-20. This time, however, it was the Staines batsmen who struggled.
Hamptonians, put in by Staines skipper Brett Archer, made 208 thanks to opener Usman Jan hitting 98. They had been 97-1 at one stage, but the introduction of new boy Jaspinder Raipur (6-64) and Sean Archer (2-21) put the breaks on.
In reply, Staines were struggling at 79-7 before Sean Archer (18) and veteran Welshman Davies (22no) enabled them to bat out the full 54 overs.
Skipper Archer moaned: "It was a familiar story of talent not being converted into scores, but we did show a great deal of fight and determination to hang on."
The second XI, away to Kingstonian, were dismissed for 149 despite Eric Carty making 37 and Alex Ardis 32. The home side went on to win by six wickets.
Staines' fourth XI lost at Valley End in a low scoring match.
