A forest school in Crane Park has been awarded Play Champion status by the organisers of National Children's Day 2015.

Nature Links, a school based in the park, incorporates an outdoor approach to children's learning, giving them freedom and space to follow personal interests.

The school was awarded the status by the Save Childhood movement, who organise the annual day to highlight the importance of play for learning.

Founder of Nature Links Heidi Magill said: "National Children’s Day is the perfect opportunity for children and their parents to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and discover the great outdoors.

"We are on a mission to get as many children and families as possible to use local parks and spaces and love nature as much as we do.

"Every day is an adventure and we want to encourage more children to experience the fun of learning through play in an outdoor space.

"Being awarded the Play Champion status by National Children’s Day UK is so exciting for us."

Parents are invited to bring their children to a special pop-up stay and play session in Crane Park on May 12 between 1.15pm and 2.45pm.
