Eight boys from Twickenham Preparatory School battled it out at Hamburg Chess Festival for a second and third place finish.
The boys, who have been playing chess for five years, were the only representatives from England and were called Team London.
The school sent two groups to compete in the tournament, with the U13 team winning third place in the U16 category while the U10 team came second in the U12 category.
The boys beat German school Gymnasium Grootmoor II with a 6-2 victory to get into the final.
The winners got trophies and will make the trip back to Hamburg next year.
The school hopes for similar success when they compete in the IAPS tournament in Easter.
