The Hampton Court Pink Ribbon Walk is coming up in May, and one woman is making it two years in a row for a very good reason.

Among the walkers will be Clare Teed, a 45-year-old from Hampton who had breast cancer diagnosed in March last year.

Ms Teed walked the Pink Ribbon Marble Hill Walk last year, while she was undergoing treatment for cancer, and was encouraged by friends to walk a bit of the course, but ended up completing it.

She said: “They told me I could walk for a little bit, but they didn’t expect me to finish the whole course.”

After finding a lump in her breast, Ms Teed went to the doctors straight away and was told that she needed a lumpectomy, plus radiotherapy treatment.

She said: “I wouldn’t wish cancer on anybody and the treatment was very intense, but there are positives involved too.”

During her chemotherapy Ms Teed and her friends decided to complete the Pink Ribbon Marble Hill Walk to raise awareness and money.

She said: “I wanted to raise awareness of cancer so that everyone knows that it can happen to anyone.

“I have friends now who check their breasts regularly and are more aware,”

Last year Ms Teed and her friends managed to raise a whopping £8,000 and they hope to raise money again this year in the Hampton Court Walk, which will be an emotional day as her cancer is now in remission.

She said: “I am looking forward to the walk and spending some time with my friends.”

The walk will be based in the beautiful grounds of Hampton Court Palace on Saturday, May 17. The route passes the Thames Path and the Royal parks.
