Police are investigating an attempted abduction after a schoolgirl was grabbed by a man.

Officers said the 10-year-old girl was cycling to school along the towpath near Petersham Meadows in Richmond when a man followed her then grabbed her arm.

Police said the girl escaped on her bike uninjured at about 8am on Wednesday, September 18.

A woman was also on the towpath at the time and police are investigating the possibility she was with the man.

There has been no arrest at this stage.

Police said extra patrols were in place in the area.
