A community history group hopes to put up a blue plaque in honour of a South African poet.
Eugene Marais lived in Coleshill Road in Teddington from 1898 to 1902 and is known as a true Victorian polymath for his work as a lawyer, naturalist, poet and writer.
Historians from the Teddington Society have been providing South African writer Carel van der Merwe with information and photographs on the poet’s life for a book he is writing.
The group met at the Park Hotel, Park Road, in Teddington on Friday, April 12, and plan to apply for a blue plaque at his old home.
