Croydon is set to host a Pride parade and festival during the Bank Holiday weekend -only the second in greater London after the main Pride in London event.

A procession led by dozens of community organisations will head from North End down to Surrey Street at lunchtime on the Sunday, August 28, leading to the main festival in Surrey Street itself.

Celebrating Croydon and its LGBT+ community, PrideFest will be opened by the Mayor of Croydon, councillor Wayne Trakas-Lawlor, and feature live music, cabaret and DJs.

Acts include the Rainbow Singers, Radio 4 cabaret act Topping and Butch and DJ Stewart Who?

As well as the stage entertainment, food and drink includes the Surrey Street Market and beers from the people behind the Crafty Purley and Croydon Craft Beer Festivals.

Cllr Trakas-Lawlor said: “This will be the first time Croydon Council is supporting a Pride festival in the borough, and I am delighted it is happening during my time as Mayor.

“As the first openly gay Mayor I will be honoured to be at the front of the parade and to open Croydon PrideFest 2016. This will be an historic first for Croydon and an opportunity to celebrate the LGBT+ community with all communities in Croydon.

“We are very fortunate to have a wonderfully diverse community in Croydon and am proud to be the Mayor in such an exciting year.”
