Well, I have to say that Captain Marvel is one ‘Bad Ass’ Momma.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to rule the Superhero fight for pure entertainment.

Brie Larson’s character has earned her place along side her namesake Captain America and we are assured of more to come.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

Yon-Rogg (Jude Law)

When we first see Captain Marvel she has a leather suit but not the military label and answers to the name Vers. She is part of an elite Kree specialist team head up by Yon-Rogg (Jude Law…who must have a Portrait in his loft somewhere that’s growing old) He never changes!

Yon–Rogg is Vers / Captain Marvels, Morpheus. Having regular training bouts in their space hyper-gym with Yon-Rogg goading the young pretender who has already acquired special powers but still learning how to control them.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

Agent Nick Fury

The Krees natural enemy is another alien breed called the Skrull and unlike the Kree the Skrull are more like Klingon’s in their looks and are also shape shifters.

During a badly planned mission on a remote planet Vers and the team are ambushed and Vers, is captured and narrowly escapes torture by high jacking a space pod and ending up crash landing on earth in the late 90s (cue a cracking 90s rock soundtrack).

It’s on earth that the film really comes into its own when the police arrive and a certain Shield Agent called Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) arrives on the scene or is it?

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

This version of Jackson is in his mid 40s, through the miracle of amazing special effects and make-up. After a minute or so, you just except the Samuel L. Jackson you are watching on the screen as if he just walked off the set of Pulp Fiction.

From their first encounter, Fury and Captain Marvel hit it off while she is being interrogated and the one-liners and gags are flying fast and the audience can tell there is an instant chemistry between these two.

There is a bigger story here as the Captain has visions of being on earth before and why are the Skrull following her through time. Is it to kill Captain Marvel or does she have something they want?

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

The Skrull

There are a few other familiar faces that turn up such as Djiman Hounsou as Korath, one of the Kree team who we first saw in the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy part 1. Also Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) turns up as Fury’s Shield side-kick.

The film has a lot of pace and entertains the audience for just over 2 hours.

We see this new Avenger grow into her powers and responsibility (we know this from Spider-Man!) But Fury’s new bestie comes in the form of a cute ginger Tom called Goose who almost steals the show.

Don’t forget to stay through the end credits  (as you do).

You won’t be disappointed!
