Hundreds thronged the first ever Kew Village Market on Sunday enjoying some tasty treats during the hottest October day on record.
Visitors browsed twenty stalls selling everything from beer to broccoli, necklaces to nuts.
The organisers were very pleased by the market’s success. “It went almost without a hitch.” said Paul Firby, who coordinated the publicity, “In fact we were probably victims of our success as many stall holders sold out.”
Stall holder Christine Stileman, who ran the Lamb and Rose Veal Stall, was staggered by the response “I was worried that I had prepared too much meat, but we sold out. And I could have sold much more.”
Kew councillor JF Burford added: “There was a wonderful atmosphere. And Kew residents had a great day supporting local traders.”
While his colleague on the council David Linette added: “The variety of stalls showed the enterprise and imagination of local people.”
The market was opened by Deputy Mayor and Kew councillor Meena Bond who praised the organisers and the hard work they had put into the event.
The next market takes place on 6 November.
