8th Twickenham (St Mary’s) Guides ‘sleeping rough’ for SPEAR.
The girls from 8th Twickenham (St Mary’s) Guides held a Sponsored Snooze to raise funds and awareness for the local charity SPEAR.
The girls, aged 10-14, bedded down in their sleeping bags and cardboard boxes for the evening in the churchyard of St Mary’s Church in Twickenham. Alarmed by the rising number of homeless people locally, the girls wanted to do something to help and to understand what it must be one of the 1 in 8,000 who slept rough on our streets in 2015/16.
In spite of the cold the girls showed great resilience and remained in good spirits for the evening, when asked about the experience they described it as ‘cold’, ‘uncomfortable’, ‘makes you feel guilty’ and ‘embarrassed’.
The girls are working really hard to earn as much sponsorship as they can for their efforts. Please see more about their story on www.justgiving.com/fundraising/8thtwickguides
