This Teddington plan must be opposed

SIR - Can I draw to the attention of Teddington readers the awful Linden Homes application to develop the Jewsons site on Sandy Lane.

The application is huge - 16 separate flat-roofed buildings up to five storeys high, with 229 one and two bedroom apartments, 18 office units with space for 132 office workers, a four-storey nursing home, a creche and some retail space for a caf or restaurant.

As well as being massive and ugly, for residents of School House Lane in particular, the scheme will mean severe loss of light and privacy - and more noise.

More generally, there will be serious implications for parking in neighbouring streets and more pressure on Teddington schools and local services. Not too mention the loss of local employment at Jewsons and the issue of decontaminating the site.

A Sandy Lane site action group has been formed and we are looking for support. Ring David Harnden on 0208 241 6062 for details The application is at Hampton Wick and Teddington libraries and online at the council's website ( www.richmond.gov.uk). Click on 'Search' then 'Current planning applications'. Scroll down for 'Application Number', enter 04/2579 and click on the search button - this takes you to the Linden Homes application.
