Hampton Hill based charity African Revival is working in partnership with established artists to promote and encourage the young artists of the future. Schools have been invited to enter children’s art work into the African Revival Art Prize 2010 Competition.

Judging of entries will be made at 3pm on Saturday 5th June at the African Revival Art & Literary Festival in the Cotman Gallery, King’s College School, Wimbledon. Entries of paintings, drawings, textiles, sculptures and ceramics which represent a creative African theme are all invited. “We want the children to explore and experiment with ideas, materials, tools and techniques. Group entries are also welcomed,” said Elaine Miller, the Festival organiser. “Let’s work together to inspire children everywhere, art knows no bounds.”

On winning the Turner Prize in 1995, Damien Hirst said: “It’s amazing what you can do with an E in A-Level art, twisted imagination and a chainsaw!” Elaine continued, “Damien’s work is proof, that grades in school years are not the only measure of potential.”

Admire, bid for or purchase from a diverse collection of art and sculpture throughout the two day festival in the Cotman Gallery on Friday and Saturday 4th and 5th June. The work of established artists, Ann Hawksley, Libby Jones, Steve Baron, Gil Whyman and many more will be on display. There’s FREE ADMISSION to the Open Art Exhibition on both days.

On Friday, the Literary Lunch is being hosted by author Jane Robinson talking about her acclaimed book 'Bluestockings'; tickets £15, including a picnic lunch. In the evening there’s a special Wine & Cheese party from 8pm; tickets £20. The event is being sponsored by Australian boutique, medal winning estate Targai Grove Wines based vineyard in East Sussex with the cheeses come from The Teddington Cheese.

All money raised at the African Revival Art & Literary Festival will go to support education projects, building schools and supporting infrastructure in Uganda and Zambia: www.africanrevival.org
