Halloween in Richmond is never boring. As in most places, witches and ghosts stalk the streets and children beg at doors for a sweet or two. However, on Richmond Hill the celebrations go further.
Every year, the Richmond American International University is transformed into a haunted house, full of sweets and shocks. The students there take it upon themselves to fully Americanise Richmond’s community by making Halloween a night to remember. The university is a gothic building, which perfectly fits the date’s occasion. As one approaches the university, they are met by a grand entrance, adorned with glowing carved pumpkins and freakishly realistic zombies and witches.
Once inside, trick or treaters have to be on their guard- you never know when a sneaky student might jump out at you. All of the rooms within the building have a different theme, all designed to make you jump and scream, but all with a sweet at the end.
One visitor of the creepy celebration last year, Hannah Postinger said: “I’d never been before, my friend told me about it. Last Halloween turned out to be the best yet. I had loads of fun at the spooky university and left with so many sweets. But I have to admit I screamed quite a lot!”
This year the university will once again open it’s haunted house of Halloween hullabaloo on the hill to all those who want to come.
