When Jill Foxley from 'The Perfumed Garden' was tending to the garden of a terminally ill customer, she was highly impressed by his Macmillan nurse. ‘She gave all the family help both physically and emotionally,’ says Jill. ‘Her deep commitment, kindness and devotion to her job rang a chord within me. It was one of those defining moments.’ This defining moment inspired Jill to design The Macmillan Healing Garden for this year’s Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
‘The garden is designed to highlight the use of plants within cancer treatments,’ explains Jill. ‘We’re using plants like birch, foxgloves and poppies, which are used in the manufacture of cancer drugs, as well as plants used in herbal remedies for relaxation and harmony.
‘It’s designed to produce a relaxing environment for someone with cancer, so there’s a day bed as part of the garden furniture.’
You can see The Macmillan Healing Garden designed by The Perfumed Garden at D3 at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show from 7-12 July.
