Do you live in one of the top 10 councils with the highest total collection for parking fines this year?

The RAC Foundation has gathered data recently, showcasing the overall parking fine collection, and London, as usual, are topping the list. Many councils, such as Westminster top the list with over £73 Million worth of parking fines, moving down to councils such as Wandsworth and Barnet with a substantially high raise.

Martin Tett, the spokesperson for the Local Government Association said that “Income raised through on-street parking charges is spent on running parking services and any surplus is only spent on essential transport projects, such as tackling our national £12 billion roads repair backlog and creating new parking spaces.”, during an interview for another newspaper.

Other councils outside of London took up a large amount of space on the list, with Brighton & Hove coming 5th overall on the list, with a large £21.2 Million raked in, showing that the capital isn’t the only place for large fines.

Throughout the country, a mind-boggling £819 Million was gathered from 353 Local Authorities over the 2016/17 Financial Year. Comparing this to the 2015/16 Financial Year shows a 10% increase, showing that the UK’s parking fines are getting forever more expensive.
