Kingston Upon Thames turned its lights on tonight, spreading Christmas joy with early festivities.

Crowds gathered in Clarence Street at 6:00pm sharp, as the long awaited Christmas lights of the Kingston town tree were turned on by no other than Santa himself.

However, the Christmas events started earlier this afternoon from 3:00pm, with the introduction of the Christmas market and stalls which were selling holiday gifts.

There was also a winter wonderland display of huts that were selling themed treats, accompanied by some carollers who gathered before the tree and entertained the awaiting guests with popular Christmas music and festive joy.

Live music on stage and fresh hotdogs, salted beef burger and caramel hot chocolates were being made available to the hungry public, setting the cosy feeling to the start of the winter season.

This year’s festivities also had the new addition of an area just for the little ones, who were free to play and get involved in the Christmas cheer. It was described as “An amazing family friendly event”.

Accompanied by a countdown, stores in the high street emptied as the Christmas lights turned on in Kingston Upon Thames for the remaining holiday season.

The events are to continue for the rest of the rest of the season, from Monday 16th November through to 1st January 2018. So grab a hot chocolate and come down with friends, family and kids to see the Christmas spirit for yourself.

And don’t forget to have yourself a merry little christmas!
