Over the last month, every McDonalds in the country has taken part in the annual monopoly event that has taken London by storm as expected. The annual monopoly event gives customers the chance of winning a multitude of prizes including Mini Coopers, one hundred thousand pounds and a number of free food instant wins. The higher valued prizes are extremely rare as the final sticker needed for a collection is hardly printed however the high tier prizes are the most sought over, the instant win food prizes are considered more useful to the majority of the population as it saves them a lot of money.

This event is essentially a mask for McDonald's as it takes a friendly house board game and uses this appearance to hide the unhealthy associations with the fast food giant. Although this scheme does lose the franchise a decent sum of money, it makes up for this factor by establishing a loyalty with customers of all ages due to the addictive taste of the menu. This event has strongly affected school students and children in the London area due to the high frequency of operating stores, students of the John Fisher School Sixth Form have described the franchise’s menu as ‘highly addictive’ and ‘impossible to not have once a week’.  It’s amazing how the description of this McDonald's phase is similar to the likes of a drug, as citizens should we really let this happen?
