On the 23rd of April 2017 40,382 runners took to London’s streets to take part in the annual London marathon. Crazy costumes were worn, charity labels were applied and game faces were ready. As well as this 50 world records where attempted to be broken!
In this year’s marathon people ran in wellington boots, sleeping bags and outfits such as beer bottles and even toilet roll! Celebrity faces including James Cracknell, Chris Evans and Sophie Raworth also joined the fun.
The race was started by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge together with Prince Harry, they attended the marathon in aid of Heads Together, a mental health charity.
This year’s winners were Mary Keitany, who completed the women’s elite race in 2 hours and 17 minutes, and Daniel Wanjiru, who completed the men’s elite race in 2 hours and 6 minutes. David Weir from Great Britain also won his seventh marathon in the wheelchair race!
