The drama department at Hampton School is gearing up for a junior school theatrical production of William Golding's "Lord of the Flies". Many new and exciting elements are being added to this play to make it stand out from the rest:

There are two acts in the production, and each will encompass a different cast. All of the cast is from Year eight, year nine and year ten. This gives more people a chance to show their talent, especially younger people in the school, as well as portray the change the boys are subdued to when living on the island. The cast also only have one term to rehearse and prepare for the play, before performing it in December. This makes the play one of a kind at the school, and this year it truly is unique.

Also a new idea is the unique mime made just for the play. The audience will experience a brief record of the key moments in the play, just before the whole cast comes together for the curtain call. This mime brings a new level of character to the play, and makes it bespoke to the school.

But the best part of this new adaptation is the set. The Hammond Theatre, the place which the production is being performed in, is a enormous space that Hampton School has taken advantage of. As well as being a commercial venue, the school uses the theatre for a multitude of different events. Frequently it is used for musicals, plays and concerts, and it's space can be adapted to any means possible for a production. The design team work hard making a set suited for a particular play.

The set to be used in "Lord of the Flies" maximises the possibilities of the theatre, as well as adding a new layer to the play. The floor will be covered in graph paper to give the illusion of the whole play being a grim science experiment, and a large hill is being erected which will fill the whole space.

Overall, this play is set be be a great success and a good end to the Winter term. The new elements added to the classic play make it new and interesting, and all that are coming to watch will be truly impressed.
