An ear bleeding screech pierced the night air at 3am on the 9th of March. Following three short coughs and a loud crash; there was a deafening silence.

Left unconfirmed ‘til the following morning, a young bushy tailed fox was found dead and crumpled under the wooden decking of the Kirby family’s back garden. On his daily venture to the compost bin, noticed that the ladder, once leant against the house wall, was now fallen on the grass. To confirm his suspicions, Mr Pears followed his instincts and let the ladder lead him to the crumpled fox. It was only when Mr Carroll arrived that they noticed the bushy tailed creature had been covered and matted in its own blood. The contorted leg suggested the fox had been left for roadkill, but with a leg so badly damaged it would have struggled entering the garden. So how did it die? Did it struggle through the night to find a comfortable place to die or did a fateful fight lead the cub to its final moments?

Whilst its body would suggest that he could only have died due to a neglectful driver, the walk from the road to the Kirby’s back garden would be almost impossible for a fox injured as badly as this one. Thus leading to the conclusion of a violent fight with a fellow fox, it’s a possibility that the two them had been fighting when one was rammed into the ladder where it fell and landed unfortunately on the fox’s leg, the other fox leaving its buddy for dead to save its own soul.
