London’s Million Women Rise

The Million Women Rise took place on the 11th March 2017, and it was a march that occurred in London to protest against domestic violence, and to end male violence against women and girls. Taking place in central London, many women and girls took part in this women only march to express their opinions and disapproval of domestic violence.

Female emancipation and liberty is an international struggle, and the Million Women Rise campaign aims to end violence against women, as it devastates the lives of women, families, and communities. Domestic violence is still a problem that occurs in this modern age, however many turn a blind eye to it. We are fortunate to live in a community where this problem is highlighted and viewed as wrong, and there are many charities - such as MWR- that aim to empower women and girls, and many charities also offer refuge and support for individuals who have suffered and experienced domestic violence. Yet, there are some communities where women live in fear and are afraid to speak out and ask for help when placed in there terrible situations.

The Million Women Rise had its 10th anniversary this year, and there was a protest through central London. I joined the march down Oxford street, and the feeling of being part of such a meaningful and honourable protest was unbelievable. The Million Women March was also very entertaining, as there was music being played as the protest moved and some people are dancing. This protest was for a righteous cause and every penny donated would make a difference.
