As promised, Trump introduced a Muslim ban into America earlier this month and as expected, there was a lot of out rage.

Discrimination against a group of people in the 21st century for any reason is ridiculous, and is even worse when it is encouraged and promoted by the governement of any state. By doing this, Trump has provided a green light for Islamophobic acts across the United States, striking fear into the lives of many innocent Muslim people. In addition, it's frankly insulting to the Muslim community, banning them from a piece of this Earth, purely based on what the believe in. There's an irony to it, considering the United States of America were founded on the basis of religious freedom.

In London, on the 4th Febuary there was a protest against the ban outside the US Embassy. They moved through London, ending up at Downing Street, where our own head of State Theresa May resides. Recently it has been uncovered that the UK government is capping the amount of Syrian refugees taken in at a number much lower than the original 20, 000 promised by ex-Prime Minister, David Cameron. Theresa May is also rumoured to be in more agreement with more of Trump's policies and ideas than she should want to admit, for example his thoughts on torture tactics.

The protest was a peaceful one, and was led mostly by Muslim groups, demonstrating for their rights to free movement and against Islamophobia in general. Sources inform me that the march was carried out without much trouble.

In a society where we pride ourselves on being more tolerant and accepting, it is important we continue to stand up for what we believe in to prove that social justice matters. Moreover, it is vital that we help and support everyone targeted unjustly by hate crimes and discrimination because that it how it ends.
