Last week saw Rosebery students triumph at the annual French speaking competition, organised by Epsom Rotary Club. The competition involves school students choosing a particular topic and speaking to an audience (which this year included visitors from Chantilly as well as the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell) in French. The winner of the senior competition this year was Daniela Bouferrache, a Year 13 student from Rosebery School in Epsom. Dani chose to speak about how to eradicate poverty, and said “I found it helped my confidence when speaking in front of a crowd, and once I got into it the nerves went”. The competition provides useful practise for languages students, who can get experience speaking in front of an audience, as well as answering follow-up questions in French. Dani added “It definitely helped me become more confident when speaking in French in front of a small audience, and hopefully this will come in useful when I do my A-Level French oral exam later this year”.
