While many of us prefer diet and sugar free drinks such as Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi to complement our diets, choosing Diet fizzy drinks doesn’t help us to lose weight. Although these drinks are sugar free and calorie free, they use artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and saccharin which can unknowingly be harmful to our health. These artificial sweeteners can change the way we taste food but also increase the risk of weight gain, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

One student from Rosebery School said “I drink fizzy drinks nearly every day most of them being sugar free”. This is worrying that teenagers are taking in these harmful chemicals from a young age which can prove harmful for them in the future.

Our body is really important and we should take care of it as keeping your body healthy keeps you happy as well.
