Over one hundred parents attended the annual Langley Park School for boys carol concert at St George’s church Beckenham on Tuesday the 13th December.

This concert raised over £950 for the Make-A-Wish foundation, which allows children with life threatening illnesses to make a wish which the charity makes happen. This could include activities such as meeting a celebrity.

The start of the evening saw the choir perform ‘Riu, RIu, Chiu’, a 15th century Spanish Carol. This was then followed by ‘Once in Royal David’s City’. Next up was the yearly Year 7 performance in which over 200 boys participated in. The well known carol of ‘Deck the Hall’ was sung by the whole year to commence their magnificent performance. The French learners then performed ‘Petit Papa Noel’ whilst the German learners followed with ‘Kling, Gloeckchen Klingelingeling’. One member of the German choir spoke to me after the performance. He said ‘It was a very good experience that gave us a chance to sing to the parents and show them what we have been learning during music’. He also stated that ‘At first it was nerve wracking however once the singing began it became exciting’. A parent also spoke to me saying ‘The performance was serene and I felt moved hearing the school children sing beautiful carols’. He also said ‘The setting was very special being the oldest church in the town’.

It was a very enjoyable evening for both the parents and boys as well as teachers which concluded a very successful term at Langley. The performances allowed the pupils to show their talents, (especially the various soloists) and also help the year 7’s to learn more of their new respective languages.
