I got to judge two days of D2D’s got talent, and I saw so much! Everyday quirks that children do at home (“Ah! Hot lava!” They scream, jumping from one sofa to the other) were turned into talents beyond belief. Door climbing, counting to 100 even invisible juggling! Each child demonstrated incredible talents. Especially the behind the scenes team!
There had been a good week of other talents which involved door frame climbing, poetry recitals, magic tricks, football skills and many more. The main event took place over the final week of school before the Christmas holidays, all the kids were excited and jumping around. The back-stage team created a stage out of large jenga-like blocks (big enough for a 15 year old to stand on) and each day, someone new took over the role of hosting. Mitch (Tuesday’s host) took to the stage and introduced the first act, Steven and Demitri who performed jokes and general entertainment to begin the audience’s evening of entertainment.
Stand out acts included Sean playing the guitar and coming in third place! “The Reindeers” who performed a festive song “Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer” and came in second place, Chris and his stomping dinosaur rap winning first place! The awesome use of his props and general stage presence was enough to capture everyone’s breath.
Overall, it was a night I will never forget. Everyone was in high spirits and when I spoke to a fellow judge I was told “They’re truly amazing, I am blown away by the standard the kids have set”. And there you have it.
Merry Christmas everyone, have an exciting new year!
