Sweatshirt clue could identify sex attacker

A SWEATSHIRT torn from the back of a sex-attacker is being used by Greenwich Police in a witness appeal and could help identify the man.

The brown top was pulled from the back of a man as he attempted to rape a 26-year-old woman in Blackheath at 1.20am on Wednesday, June 29, this year.

The victim, who cannot be named, managed to escape the attacker after she was forcefully dragged into a garden in Vanbrugh Park.

The woman, from Greenwich, gave a description of her attacker to detectives.

He was described as being a pale-skinned black man, of medium build with a short Afro-style haircut.

As well as the Fruit-of-the-Loom sweatshirt, which the police now have, he was wearing a white T-shirt, dark baggy denim trousers and black trainers.

A police spokesman said: “The victim was badly shaken in the attack.

“We need to hear from anyone who might know this man or who saw him in the area.”
