Nigel Grant – Principal
Nigel is an articulate, imaginative finance professional with a number of core beliefs:

He has over 30 years of commercial experience growing SMEs from start-up to successful enterprises. As an experienced Finance Director, Nigel has a broad range of skills to contribute to your business including Strategic review, Financial control, System design, Management information, Excel modelling, Budgeting, Business integration, Company secretarial, Human resources, Fundraising, Stakeholder relations and Mergers & Acquisitions. Nigel obtained a Law degree at Cambridge University before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young (formerly Arthur Young McClelland Moores).
Helping Ticketmaster grow to be a global name
Having qualified he moved into commerce, and after a short time with a fast-growing family business joined Ticketmaster in London as its first Finance Manager. He rapidly taught himself programming skills and wrote a payroll application for a pc. This opened the door to some sophisticated programming that enabled Ticketmaster to survive through the 1980s as a licensee. He designed and implemented financial and management information systems through a collection of database programs.
Ready for a new challenge he joined the inaugural open-learning MBA course at Kingston and passed with distinction (awarded to 2 out of 60) whilst continuing to develop the Ticketmaster business as Finance Director. He was closely involved in the negotiation and completion of the sale of the licence to the US licensor and invited to continue to serve with the newly formed UK subsidiary.
Turnover from nil to £200 million
With the advent of the internet, Ticketmaster soon rose to be one of the largest global internet retailers achieving some 30% of sales. Under Nigel’s stewardship, Ticketmaster had grown in the UK from a 6-person computer bureau in the basement of Lincoln’s Inn Fields to a household name based in Leicester Square with 800 staff, 120 position call-centre and £200m turnover.
After two secondments to Melbourne, Australia to reassert financial control and develop appropriate systems, he returned to the UK to be selected as one of a 3 man team to target Europe opportunities. Following a very successful acquisition and integration of an Irish business, the team assessed many opportunities in Europe but found few viable targets (some nine years on only limited progress into mainland Europe has been achieved). Accordingly the team was disbanded and Nigel was made redundant.
Headhunted – increased turnover 10-fold
Soon Nigel was headhunted to join a lifestyle recruitment business in the City with a specific objective to grow the business and add shareholder value. In the first 2 years, turnover increased 10-fold. Nigel was actively involved in the subsequent reverse takeover of Longbridge International, an AiM listed recruitment business serving the legal sector. This involved third-party fundraising, detailed due diligence and substantial legal negotiation both for the acquisition and the re-listing on AiM.
£1.7m loss to £1m profit in one year
In the first full year post-acquisition, the business was turned around from losses of £1.7m to profits of £1m. In the second year, further growth and improvements were achieved. Regrettably Nigel recognised a lack of transparency from certain colleagues and his position as Finance Director of an AiM listed company became untenable. Reluctantly he resigned.
Interim Finance Director
After assisting in a variety of ventures and setting up his own private tuition business, Nigel was appointed as an Interim Finance Director of a digital communications company in the West End of London. He simplified the financial procedures and enhanced the quality of financial reporting which resulted in his contract being extended for a further 3 months.
Immediately afterwards Nigel was appointed as the Finance Director of a leading debt recovery company with a clear mission to grow shareholder value for sale. His first major task was to produce accurate management information from incomplete records and control cash. Working with a very inexperienced finance team he built robust financial systems and timely reporting whilst doubling turnover.
Nigel is a keen golfer and a regular player at Royal Wimbledon Golf Club playing off a handicap of 5. He is also a member of the Oxford & Cambridge Golfing Society. He is happily married to Ingrid and lives in Kingston, Surrey.
