Tesco plans to return to Hounslow

Tesco is coming back to Hounslow town centre.

Several years after the supermarket giant closed its branch near the bus garage it plans to move back to a site almost opposite.

Tesco will bulldoze Hounslow House and open a new superstore in London Road.

The proposal includes two and three-bedroom flats and 100 parking spaces.

“A new Tesco store and new homes will attract more shoppers and help to revitalise this area of Hounslow town centre, as well as providing convenient parking, shopping and better choice for local people."

James Hepburn, development manager St James’s Investments

A recent survey found that Hounslow town centre attracts just 15 per cent of shoppers living in its immediate catchment area. The supermarket chain hopes this will mean more people shop locally.

James Hepburn, development manager for St James's Investments, said: "A new Tesco store and new homes will attract more shoppers and help to revitalise this area of Hounslow town centre, as well as providing convenient parking, shopping and better choice for local people.

"We want to get the proposals right and deliver the best scheme possible for the town centre which is why we are holding a public exhibition at an early stage. We are very keen to hear your views."

The proposals will be on display at Hounslow House, 730 London Road, from 10am to 6pm today.
