Shoppers will be relieved to hear that a new free short-stay car park has opened up in Brentford.
Following a two-year-long campaign by traders a temporary car park opened up last week in High Street opposite Brentford Lock.
The first two hours are free to encourage people to 'stop and shop' but councillor for Brentford and chairman for Brentford High Street Steering Group Andrew Dakers reminded residents to walk, cycle or get the bus whenever possible.
He said: "For rainy days and for visitors from out of Brentford we hope this will make High Street an easier place to visit.
"Some environmental improvements should be made to the car park in due course, but just getting it open is a big step forward."
Brentford High Street offers gift shops, art supply stores, a bicycle shop, a range of restaurants and other unique retailers.
Holiday shoppers can also take a break and enjoy family entertainment at Watermans Arts Centre and the recently re-opened Musical Museum. Syon Park also has a magical lights display.
